Cook Island oil tanker EAGLE S is almost certainly arrested as a prime suspect in todays breakdown of 658 MW connector Estlink2
Finland Coast Guard patrol ship Turva just turned on AIS. The two vessels are stationary on Finnish territory. Turva was also very involved in Yi Peng 3-case a month ago
As the whole baltic sea is mainly national coast - Is it possible to allow ships to sail through the Baltic Sea areas of NATO countries only with local pilots. Or at least those that sail to or from Russia?
Thx for all the updates. NATO should establish a surveillance ops in the baltic. Since cutting energy in the baltic states would be a first goal for invasion, this is crucial for deterrence.
Actually, already at New New Polar Bear sabotage incident, Finnish Navy and Finnish Coast Guard almost immediately knew which ship was suspect. All the ships on Baltic sea are continuously tracked. Problem is that international law is murky in the case. Now it will be tested with EAGLE S.
Looks like the Russian dunces made the mistake not to use a Chinese ship. Cook Islands is rather unlikely to cause any major problems if the ship is fully arrested.
The flag country is central in international law. I understand that all three ships were under effective Russian control, but the international law on sea discusses the flag country. I guess there are rather many screws to force Cook Islands to co-operate fully.
This was more or less partly a joke. China is a superpower meddling on its own behalf, Cook Islands a minuscule country. It is also very likely that the New New Polar Bear and Yi Peng 3 incidents led to substantial Chinese anger at Russians.
Now the EAGLE S is anchored under guard by Turva.
If Estlink2 i destroyed it comes in very timely. Baltic states are in the final preparations to desynchronize from Russian grid and enter the western system.
