This is of very great concern. Labour has effectively declared war on trans academics and students. By defining transphobia as a “free speech” issue it is going to protect transphobes in higher education while preventing trans-inclusion. This is the opposite of “free speech”.

Well done Labour!
Wonder what else this Tory-appointed off-the-leash quango head is going to gun for if he isn’t stopped?

The institutionalization of "free speech" exists simply to allow those perennially "controversial views" - like racism, climate change denial, or holocaust denial - to be aired unopposed. Transphobia is a good wedge for that.
On the flipside: draconian laws against protest.

He's as far away from Socialism as you and I are from Mars.
As an HR Director, it is this that is keeping me up at night. I need to think it through but not employing vile people in the first place will be a good start….
Project 2025 is being implemented in the UK #r4today
Pretty sure that can be said of the entire cabinet.
All will come to light.
Run the same story with (almost) any other minority, and even Starmer's "more Tory than the Tories" party would be ashamd to support it.
As a trans ally, I think it’s important to have thoughtful discussions about free speech.
How do we navigate this in a way that upholds dignity and respect for trans people? I feel I must engage the anti trans community in a way that helps them understand and change.
They simply hate trans people, and want us to suffer and even die.
But in the current environment it’s unthinkable that any amount of dialogue could make any appreciable difference.
Since Trump and Brexit, we’ve entered a new stage of decline, and the idea we could debate our way out is delusional.
This is a time of rampant fascism, and dialogue is wasted on fascists.
The truth is, nothing can seriously improve for trans people (and nor can we arrest our losses) until the political winds change.

The OfC '...insists it was ‘impartial and view-point-neutral', but it has not talked to anyone apart from Professor Stock [and]...repeatedly refused to hold any substantive meeting with the University.'
Something I seriously disagree with
