actual answer now that i'm home: predominant theory is that the cells can travel through blood/lymph to...technically anywhere? it's unusual (10-15%) that it ends out outside the pelvis, highly unusual (0.0X-5%) that it's outside the abdomen, and almost never in the eye (only case studies). and yet.
the big discrepancy in the 0-5% factor comes mostly from scarring endometriosis which has a high correlation with abdominal wall procedures (c section, laparoscopy, etc). this is followed by thoracic endo (lungs/chest) mechanism unclear but most likely (big "?") from retrograde endometrial flow
how it ends up even farther away????? even less clear, but i say blood/lymphatic cell transfer bc its basically the only possible way to explain how it ends up in your fucking tear duct. a thing that happens to no one ever, except for like 100 people, one of whom i have encountered
how exactly conjuctival (the part of your eye that looks red/has visible blood vessels in it) symptoms are to related to endo/hormone cycles is...unclear?? though noted to be correlated. but your cornea absolutely does fluctuate with hormones in predictable ways! tissue thickness, dryness, etc.
fascinated by the collective horror of this 😂 but rest assured it will basically never happen!!!!! you're more likely to have endo collapse your lung than to have it seeping blood out of your eye. and the chances of it collapsing your lung aren't exactly high.
Yeah I mean on its own it’s not terribly painful or even terribly problematic, just bleeding through nose and eyes randomly. Alas there were many other comorbidities but none in the realm of ophthalmology
Yeah basically anything that can affect your nerve tissue or your vascular tissue can affect your eye! Strokes, diabetes, melanoma, a good majority of autoimmune conditions….ive seen some parasitic worms…i never would have contemplated endometriosis tho 😂
Well. Much like uterine tissue tends to do even when it has the decency to remain in its assigned location… when it chooses to travel, it still bleeds at the whim of hormone levels
