Don’t think we can ignore Mateta’s form in all this. He’s been fit, scoring, and undroppable so Nketiah’s not been able to get more than 10 minutes a game.
Had Mateta had a serious dip in form or got injured Nketiah would have had some minutes to find some rhythm but it’s not been possible
I really feel for him. Granted, it’s looking like a great piece of business — yet. But he’s being harshly judged. It’s like slagging Hendo off for playing poorly in CM.
Bad again? I’m afraid that he and Kamada (to a lesser extent) are absolute duds. I think I was in the ‘sell both’ camp around October. I still maintain that position.
I’m not defending his performance, which IMO was neither good nor bad, but he came on in the 86th minute, to play out of position again. And for the 9 minutes he was on the pitch we repeatedly failed to get the ball up the pitch and into dangerous positions.
I’d say Nketiah had no impact on the match at all. Kamada did get on the ball a lot more. A wayward long ball comes to mind, alongside some decent short range passing and recycling.
I’m not sure about Kamada. It feels like he’s being played out of position. He’s being used as a utility player tho.
Hughes started out in that role, playing in all sorts of positions and ways, limited game time. He won over the fans because of his tenacity. Unfortunately Kamada has come on in a difficult situation, and isn’t Hughes. I feel he needs the team to be around him, not to be shoehorned into the side.

At least with Nketiah it’s not lack of effort. I do believe he at least tries. Which he should, but others haven’t.
