I was so passionate about craft, the maker's hand, the joy of coding complex framesets and CSS in Notepad. All that sickening sincerity at 17 years old, like it makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it.

I almost went into IT back in 2000. It was a new department at the University I was thinking of going to but my grades weren't great in high school math (I barely passed) and the Uni rejected my application.

So I went to art school instead, ending up with BFA and MFA in Fibre/Textiles.

I didn't really do any textile crafts growing up, like not really, but in a weird way I knew the value of making something by hand. That expressive teenage coding nerd evolved into a textile artist, obsessed with subverting traditional hand knitting practices.

And a decade or so later, that textile nerd started working in public libraries and eventually went back to grad school to become a librarian.

After 13 years at the library, it feels like I have come full circle to my teen self as I am now responsible for our digital collections.
