In government it's... confusing. You can technically get reprimanded for working off hours since that could qualify you for OT which means more money which means you're now into Procurement territory and Procurement process is Very Serious Shit.

I'm not surprised by that at all, and also this is why engineers also can't do OT in certain states. Employees can be paid for that extra time.

Public sector... that's tax payer money. That's allotted to you for the year by someone who you Do Not Want To Know Your Name. Procurement issues and violations get ugly fast.

The only time where I have had to do weekend work is due to a big outage with a vendor, or a zero day that required response over the weekend.

Both time recognized that its out of hours and gave me time off after the fact.
