It's fair to say that Microsoft's Xbox took over where SEGA's Dreamcast left off. Some of the greatest gaming series from DC arrived on Xbox. Jet Set Radio Future is fantastic, Panzer Dragoon Orta is terrific too.
The Simpsons games, Crazy Taxi 3, House of The Dead 3, Shenmue 2, ToeJam and Earl 3, OutRun 2, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, DOA 2 and 3, JSRF/Sega GT 2002, Blinx The Time Sweeper, Cel Damage...
The HOURS I spent replaying this game, long after I'd experienced every drop of content. I enjoyed the multiplayer modes too. IMO a masterpiece of its time.
Agreed! And I desperately wish Microsoft would let the video game rights out of its vault and either do something with it or let someone else do another Crimson Skies arcade flier or tactical RPG.
Uh uh uh Panzer Dragoon Orta? Which btw everyone should play it is one of the best looking games on the Dreambox 2. Also has a a 4K upgrade on the series x.
didn't have an Xbox back then (sorry, dreamcast was a nonplayer and I refuse to think of the Xbox as being a dreamcast when so much of it's glory wasn't Sega), I've always loved fable and a multiplats from that gen. Timesplitters Future Perfect I played a ton on GameCube and Xbox at a friend's place
There's a lot more Dreamcast/SEGA DNA in the OG Xbox than people realize. Even MS was involved with the Dreamcast before the Xbox. Great games though, I love me some Fable.
It's gotta be the all-timer Halo: Combat Evolved for me.
Its (by today's standard) low-poly aesthetic and sudden horror switch-up near the middle makes it an absolute favorite of mine.
There is a shared executive in the form of Peter Moore, who led the launch of the Dreamcast in the US, and made the call to cease sales. He went on to oversee Microsoft Games Division for the Xbox and 360 years.
But there's lots of shared design cues and technology decisions...
Microsoft had previously worked with SEGA to provide Windows CE for the Dreamcast, proving viability of a console based on Windows technologies.
Dreamcast supported dialup internet and online gaming via SegaNet; MS asked SEGA about bringing it to Xbox via broadband; ultimately Xbox LIVE happened...
Nah. They're all within the same gen and all of the games looked roughly the same. The Dreamcast was released in September 1999 in the US. Xbox wouldn't be DC2 if it's within the same gen. Dead or Alive 3 on the Xbox looks about the same as Dead or Alive 2 on the Dreamcast. Dreamcast 1.1 for sure.
I consider 360 more of the DC2 as it was the next generational leap and in so many ways also felt like a SEGA console. That said. Jet Set Radio Future. Bought it for Shenmue II. Stayed for understanding the concept of love.
XBOX gave SEGA more respect than any other company at the time, honestly. They even worked with SEGA on the Dreamcast and built a custom Windows CE for it. Once the DC was gone, the Xbox carried over more SEGA titles than PS2 or GC did.

Expansion slots in the back of the controller, the ABXY placement, left analog stick in the primary position instead of d-pad, shoulder triggers...

Jade Empire
(and obvs Halo 2)
My stupid 360 won't read discs so I can't play it.
Never had one when it was relevant so that's my favorite game my bf at the time had outside of Halo 2 and Morrowind.
All bangers
Halo 2
