Gog is one of my favourite platforms and it and Steam should represent the base standards in digital distribution. As I said earlier, digital ownership isn't the problem. It's the dog shit digital distribution platforms of the big three that are the problem.

I just wish people would concentrate their efforts on pushing these companies into just some basic standards (like offline play working) instead of worrying about physical because the reality is with 90%+ of sales being digital its on its way out, that's just a simple fact like it or not.

That and we're kind of stuck finding ways to own digital regardless. I prefer my complete physical copies, but I know I gotta bend for modern releases. GOG is a perfect way to do it.

I love my physical games collection, but as early as 2003, I saw the digital age was coming. As Gog and somewhat Steam has shown that future can be bright and pro consumer, not locked down and Anti consumer.

I'm thinking of trying to get what I can which I have on Steam from GOG. It'd be double dipping and I'm not sure how complicated it would be to transfer saves from Steam BG3 to GOG BG3, but I want to do it.

Back before steam saw them as a potential rival they did crossover promotions which allowed you to link your profiles and you could add some of the corresponding steam games to your GOG account for free.

I do already!!! It’s the only reason I went with a ROG Ally over a steam deck for mobile gaming. Cause most of my library is there. Plus they optimized so many old gems. No DRM either. You can download the install files.

I have used GOG once, for one specific purchase.... Ironically, I can't remember what game it was...

It was when Steam said that gamers didn't own games bought on their store though, I know that much 😅

One of the other things I found with GOG, is if games are that old they need patches to run like DA origins, they not only come complete as a game file, but they include the patch as well.

I'd especially recommend the original Resident Evil trilogy. Their PC ports are on GOG and run amazingly, way better than the PSX originals.

I don't usually buy games from GOG since it doesn't accept my local currency, but I did make an effort to convert it to USD if I see any particularly good deal over there.

Another tip is that GOG will usually have sales that line up with steam sales. So before I buy from a steam sale I’ll check GOG

It’s my second largest PC library(just behind physical) which is saying something considering how many free games amazon and epic regularly give away. Steam is probably the most distant last place.

A lot of the games there are redeemed via GOG (and others via Epic or Amazon Launcher). Currently BioShock Infinite and The Talos Principle are GOG games on there.

I wouldn't sign up to the service just for the games, but if you already have it then you may as well redeem the games. You can still play after your subscription ends.
