I would be torn by this. I love large open world games. That's my favorite kind because I love exploring (but rarely bother with DLC). And I love the beautiful landscapes and vistas etc. But I'm also fond of retro (and retro inspired) games. Half of the games I buy lately are modern retro. 😃
But but but it's new and cost the company 1 bazillion bajillion dollars. Abd it's exclusively on this one platform you don't have and it's not going yo go down in price abd I want it to win GOTY 30 TIMES OVER.
With a toddler now, I just don't have time for modern games TBH, give me a retro classic favorite I can throw on immediately with no updates needed, and play for about half an hour. 🤷🏼
The sign on the left should read:
Realistic Graphics (that crash your PC/console), 100 hours of open world game play (completing almost identical objectives), and DLC (that costs twice as much as the base game)
Depends on the game really. I am taking a break after finishing Tomb Raider 2 before I start 3 to carry on my Death Stranding run before the sequel and got addicted to deliveries
Mixing it up between good modern and good retro makes gaming a great delicious buffet!
The beauty of retro games a lot of the time is they had major technical constraints. In the good games nearly everything had a specific purpose for being included as you were squeezing into a tiny storage or memory limit.
Now games can have so much filler to pad out playtime.
I know not all retro games were great but I’d rather have a focused experience than lifeless open worlds where 90% of the playtime is procedurally generated or bland landscape, repeatable quests or the same 4 scripted encounters.
I mean everyone's different but some of my favorite games I've ever played Cyberpunk, Skyrim, Fallout, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Red Dead Redemption 2 are all games I sunk 100+ hours into. Video games are my favorite hobby so I always find the time to play
Honestly that is what is making Dragons Dogma 2 hard for me. It's so open, and they basically removed fast travel for those not wanting to buy it.
So I am stuck walking for hours to where I want to be.
How am I supposed to be excited for something like GTA6 when Mega Man 2 is sitting right there staring at me, tempting me with its absolute peak gameplay?

Shovel knight.

But I guess there just wasn't enough alternatives around so you'd probably stick to finishing that single title you'd buy every few months or so 😅
