It seems like what the Labour Party learnt from 14 years of Conservatives is that you don't lose elections by penalising the most vulnerable, by contributing to avoidable social suffering, and by avoiding structural reforms (e.g. taxation system, Council Tax, social care).
Precisely, it is the loss of hope.
During Tory Austerity there was at least the hope of a change of government.
Now with both major parties a political distinction without an economic difference who do you vote for that believe that companies and rich should shoulder some of the burden?
... affect just 20,000 people in the UK, it would cost them just £200k it would raise £26billion
Instead, with smiles & the arrogance to say it is their "moral duty," they cut welfare & force this burden onto the backs of those least able to bear it.
Germany has proposed the UK rejoin the EU customs union. This would make running a business easier, raise £8 billion annually, & and cut out 2 billion bits of paperwork.
Be it Red Tory or Blue Tory they are still going to destroy disabled lives, their standard of living which is as we know is always massively reduced 1 way or another
always said let’s give them a chance but why go after disabled without taxing the rich at least as 1st attempt at balancing the books
Any government has choices, there is no such thing as 'we have no choice'. Hard fought for DLA & then PIP will now be stripped away from most disabled people due to finagled descriptors.Cutting ESA will not help anyone to miraculously find work that they cannot do or is not there

I worry about the claim, politicians are the same because some people will just give up. There are some decent mos who have the UK best interests at heart, eg Carla Denyer, Zack Polanski, Zara Sulatana, Corby, etc
I can’t see how anybody fair-minded, thinking person can look at how the current Labour leadership have conducted themselves over the last decade and conclude that they are the “good guys”. They are a stain on the Labour Party.
When unwell people lose their pip then they’ll have to look for work and won’t be able to keep up with jobcentre conditionality then sanctions will hit. 3 sanctions and it’s 6 months without benefits. Without family you’ll be out on streets
We tried. We tried to make this the argument & people didn't want to hear it. I can't tell you how many times I tried to talk about cuts or schools or the disabled and all you got back was Brexit good or bad and immigration. I know exactly what you mean about losing hope, mine left me December '19.
Sad, but true. Most politicians, even those who enter with the idea of doing good and helping, end up selling out to lobbyists because they want the money.
And I fear this loss, this “politicians are all the same” confirmation leave many looking for alternatives that will promise them shiny things but deliver nothing and worse. Not only disappointing by Labour but democratically shortsighted.
The sad reality is if we continue down this “they’re all the same” which I agree is hard to deny, we are allowing someone far far worse and it will be Farage. We have to still engage with politics because the alternative really is fascism. And we can’t have that.
Labour would do well to heed the words of Franklin Roosevelt:
"True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made."
Liberal democracy is at a crossroads; more of the same won't cut it
It's not just hope that can never be got back but years of punitive rises in Disability bens. followed now by real term & savage cuts means that they will almost certainly never be a secure & realistic amount for people to live on as even if the good times come they will always be playing catch up

Instead: Labour, who let's be real, may as well call themselves Tories at this point, have offered more austerity, more cuts and more job losses...
If austerity worked & raised GDP & people's standard of living, the Tories would still be in power.
However, austerity doesn't work. Yet here we are.
Labour could introduce a wealth tax of 2% on those with £10million+ it would...

They then find this will only...
Depending on where those cuts are made, it could reduce tax revenue & make things even harder for vulnerable people.
They do all of this while taking more "gifts" than any cabinet in history.
But thats not enough, so they...

You'd think Labour would jump on this.
Labour are the current advert for...
By running the country for the 1% rather than the 99% what do you think English voters will do?
I think they'll say "F*ck it, I might as well vote ReformUK. It can't get any worse."

Fortunately in my constituency I had to vote Lib Dem to get rid of our Tory.
