You’re looking at the reason I became a Democrat.
In 1999, when I was 15 years old in Brooklyn NY, I volunteered to help a local campaign for City Council.
I was naive back then, but I always viewed government as the best way to help people. My parents were Republican and so I just went along.

In fact, I might have fixed the Dem campaign for midterms: take the campaign
I think the US has some time to go before ditching their enormously expensive campaigns which big business thrives on. But it would be best if they went.
My parents were always conservative. I love them dearly, but if I told them this, they'd probably tell me to kick rocks lol.
The cruelty is always the point.
Thank you.
Oh, they were led by Sister Joan Chittester.
This got me in the heart, Joe. Thank you for sharing it. In a country as wealthy as ours, there’s no excuse for anyone to be destitute without anywhere to sleep. Everyone deserves dignity of having opportunity to lift themselves up. 🙏💙
Because we live amongst real bastards.
It was the police brutality and harassment I started seeing and receiving at age 11-12.
It was seeing all the people I loved get called lazy while working far harder than those calling them lazy.
Seeing the harm that conservatism causes
Walking in NYC with the family. Lady of the evening walked up and asked if I had change of a dollar for a phone call. I did not but gave here a quarter.
Mom asked why I spoke to her...I told her that is what she taught us....she smiled, sighed and asked the women if she still needed change.
My parents are registered Democrats now. Those values they gave us do not align with the GOP.
He always pushed me to get involved in politics, because to him, it was a way to help people.
On this fateful day, I followed the candidate around with a stack of campaign signs and we began our neighborhood walk.
It was almost like time stood still for that moment.
I thought about how
I would tell him that while the City had homeless “shelters,” why haven’t we tried homeless “centers,” somewhere with child care, room and board, clothes programs and laundry services.

I knew NYC had resources but they seemed far apart and remote.
I imagined people smiling at their most vulnerable. Getting a second chance that they deserve.
My daydream was interrupted by his answer:
I felt the blood drain from my face.
The chance to connect people with resources they need is a privilege.
After excusing myself, I went home.
I sat my parents down
And explained that while I respected their choices, I would not be registering as a Republican when I was old enough to vote.
/not sarcasm, and I hate that I have to make that a point
Keep doing good, and I hope this finds you and yours well.
They'd be correct.
Hostile architecture IS a real thing, but fake images like this give Regressives an excuse to call it a lie.
Cruelty is the point

There was no one out except for this giant of man who was over six and a half feet tall and over 300 pounds who was screaming "I'm angry. I want to hurt someone". So my instinct was to keep some distance.
The person I was with didn't even notice
A few minutes later he walked up to someone with headphones and tried pulling their headphones out but not violently. This guy was huge. He did it rather gently, considering. A man
We get to our room a few blocks later and I see the man is being arrested by a large number of police. It was only then that it hit me. I don't think the large man wanted that person's headphones, or phone, or to hurt anyone. I think he was
There could have been other reasons. He moved in the direction of a mobile police unit. He didn't have enough clothes on for the weather and it was literally freezing. He didn't actually take anything. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it possible
