Signed and donated. I wouldn’t be where I am now (Assistant Headteacher teaching Latin and Greek) if my maintained grammar school hadn’t supported my Latin education year 8-13. My Latin teacher was phenomenal.

I did O level Latin at my state comp. They still do it. I absolutely believe picking Latin over German at the end of the second year was the right thing for me.

That’s the choice I had to make too, and whilst I would have loved to do German as well, Latin has been so useful for setting a foundation.

I did O & A level French. The only reason I passed either was the grammar I learned in Latin. It's also the reason I know any English grammar.
But the main reason for the choice was the Latin teacher was young & male. He let us make jokes about his footy team (Wolves) as long as we did it in Latin!

Thank you so much for signing - as you say it’s about removing the chance to learn Latin that is wrong. No one is forced to do it, but not giving the opportunity to students in state schools is dreadful.

When I was aged 11 I wanted to learn Latin so much that I went out and bought Ecce Romani, and started teaching myself. Unfortunately the self-motivation abandoned me halfway through book two, but one of these days I'd love to take it up again, if I can find a suitable course.

Thanks so much. Your courses look fantastic, but my working hours are completely unpredictable (and my finances even more so), so I'm looking more for self-study books. Along with a few more hours in the day! I am determined to learn Latin at some point though.

It might be worth reaching out to the Open University to see if they can help? They offer a range of short courses via online learning and might have exactly what you are looking for when you are ready? 😃
