Gannett is going to pay this person minimum wage “because it’s AI-assisted” but expect that person to do all the work of teaching the program and fixing its mistakes.
If it’s the job listing I saw a while ago, it sounds a lot like what we would normally call a data reporter. But even just calling it AI-assisted is bleak.
I think normalizing AI in journalism is concerning even if that's not what the job is actually going to be, like we're just priming people to accept when it is AI jobs.
It would be awesome of sports desks used AI to tell humdrum stories about acquisitions and player movements *in order to free up reporters for more investigative and long form content that people would enjoy!*
