I agree with this entirely, in fact it should be way way broader. Because in reality no person on earth meets this definition…
Like, a lot of that wealth would drop massively if it was to be used, but even then, it’s a drop in the bucket. Seriously lets not pretend „solving world hunger” is easy.
The fact that money is the solve for hunger is the sickening thing. Like, enough food exists for everybody, and the only reason they don't have it is because we put sustenance behind a fucking paywall.
agreed -- with the note that Elon's money, as I understand it, is all on paper and he could not actually turn it into funding for good works, he's leveraged up to his ass on Tesla debt and is effectively owned by the Saudis
"the world's richest man" is a branding strategy based on his stock valuation, and he has *relatively* minimal liquid (real) wealth. It's all contingent on markets
Yeah, this goes for all the mega-billionaires, although it varies - Bernard Arnault probably had more solid assets than Musk, Bezos, or Zuck, but the actual richest person in the world in solid wealth may be an oilman who isn't a household name or something.
Yup, and even if all that money was freely available to be spent without devaluation, it still wouldn’t be enough… As obscenely and unjustifiably rich as these people are, the costs of actions on the scale needed are on an entirely different level. With many challenges not easily solved with cash.
Surprise surprise, solutions at scale require a systemic approach and the kind of money only ever available to nation states. That’s why socialised approaches work. And problems on a global level require the same, just with many many nations pooling their resources, infrastructure and influence.
Yea… it’s not like one would have to somehow continuously bribe and pay off entire rebel groups and warring factions…
That would definitely work lmao.
A single person no matter how wealthy can never truly solve a problem like this, no matter how big his dragon treasure pile is… We don’t need them…
