Leasing office space is irrelevent. They can either get out of their lease early or they can't. The outgoings are fixed either way. They think their staff are all slackers abd they need them where they can crack the whip.

Because they wouldn’t know how to manage people or how anything works to save their lives. Thus, they can’t conceive that one’s work outputs could be measured, regardless of whether it is done remotely. Plus, they are just sort of punitive whiny bitches. ‘I worked in an office so you do. Whaaaa!’
