All squash & pumpkin are eatable. Some varieties are tastier than others so people may refer to those as ‘eatable’. Maybe a gardener that grows more squash can identify this one. Cut it and taste a sliver. Cook it and try it.
Guessing gourd.
gourd seeds are usually as tasty as pumpkin and squash seeds....but gourd flesh tastes like a centerpiece at grandmas house.
Thick Flesh = Eat
Thin Flesh = try the seeds...might as well now that you cut it.
Curry might cure whatever problems it has.
I think it's an eating one, but it's worth cutting open and tasting the flesh to double check. I've consumed tons of random squash from a Mennonite grocery where they never really specify their initial purpose.
Cut it in half. If the flesh is thin with a very large and mostly-hollow seed chamber, it's probably a decorative gourd. If it's thicker, it's probably for eating. Regardless, cut a slice and taste it. If it's really bitter, don't cook/eat it. (It won't hurt you, but will taste awful.)
