No. The current wave started when scammers found they could easily juice algorithms. Networked inauthentic political accounts then pushed rage and fear smear click bait to gain attention. Then that model spread across mediums and channels. And far right media proliferated.

I think it’s pretty notable that he recognized it as more than just dumb nerd bs (which incidentally, was the position of academia on GG for awhile), and that recognition made for the growing of his personal brand as well as the capabilities of hyper online chuds to do irl damage.

Bannon is a strategic savant. He understood immediately that saying the 2020 election was stolen was the key to keeping the base energized, engaged & organized. The, broadly, stop the steal movement, paired with "moms for liberty/against vaccines," created a 4-year groundswell for 2024
