And check out books you like even if you've already read them - in many countries authors get a bit of money when their books are loaned from libraries...
And demand your public authorities to invest money in them. Here's the best thing available to all in Barcelona for free, our wonderful libraries: https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/biblioteques/en
Check out the app Libby. It lets you borrow digital and audio copies from your library.
Also, some libraries online websites let you borrow books by ordering them and they send them to you through the US mail and then you just have to drop them at the closest library to return them.
In Tx you can also get a card that allows you to use all state university libraries as well as many private universities. Baylor U has a great library.
The best things about our libraries? When you borrow, you don't have to dust, store, move a bunch of books or purge them when you age. How many books do you read more than once, save for resource books. I now get mine delivered & returned via USPS, no fees. No fines. Damn I love libraries.
I'm not paying for a book. Just like I wouldn't pay for a movie, a comic, a manga, an anime, a video game, etc... I'm principled in my theft, I'll steal the milk out of your fridge.
Authors get paid for books used in libraries through different models. So you’re doing the old school equivalent of using a streaming service, not stealing from authors.
If y’all have never heard of the Libby app please download it. Your library card can grant you access to a bunch of digital books and audio books. You can even get library cards through the app to expand your access.
I had no idea, and I do have Library cards in 3 cities, as I am a member of "FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY" I suppose I can increase that the first of the year.
I also wonder if people who currently don't have a library card realize how much digital material is available to them with one! Streaming movies, TV, kids programming and music; digital magazines , audiobooks, ebooks, etc.
What now? Really? Can’t see where you’re based but I will check if this is the case for where I am (Scotland). I have a card but no idea about most of your list there. Thank you for the heads up!
I'm in the US. The "library of things" varies widely by location. Some cities are really amazing though! The one in my town is just talking about it now, while the next town over has a great one. But digital offerings are everywhere here now!
When my kids were little, we’d go to our local library and check out toys along with our books. It was so nice to be able to keep toddlers entertained with new options!

Neither has everything but it’s free real estate.
Libraries are SO MUCH MORE than books. They are vital to the people and communities they serve.
Because even though *you* may not need or want to use public libraries, you can bet *someone else certainly does* 💜
