Example:
1. The email arrives.
2. You click the hotel booking link.
3. Select desired hotel.
4. Select exact stay dates (Checkout is morning *after* selected dates.)
5. Autofill in name/address info.
6. Fill in payment info.
7. Click the Book/Submit/etc. button.

A. Some hotel websites will be really slow or unresponsive registration day.
(The bigger conventions usually don't have this problem, with multiple hotel chains.)
B. Selecting a specific hotel is *supposed* to save your spot a few minutes, so it can't be swiped.
This is what I've used to maximize successes for first-come-first-serve hotel bookings.
This can't cover every possible scenario, but works for me.
