One of the weirder CDs I own is the Director's Commentary for the first season of South Park. Apparently Warner Bros refused to put it on the DVD without editing and Matt & Trey refused, so they released it separately. Is anyone aware of any other examples of this ever happening? - ThreadSky

it's not at all for the same reason, but Rian Johnson put out online commentary tracks for a couple of his films with the intent of them being listened to via an earbud during an in-theater rewatch

i'm kind of curious how much WB *really* wasn't interested in putting it out, considering they seemed to have no trouble giving all the appropriate licenses for releasing this anyway. kind of feels a little bit like a stunt to me, to be honest.

This genuinely pissed me off cuz I love the 1st Season of South Park (except for the one about talking feces), and when I was getting into the show, it was super hard to sync it up, and that was assuming the commentary was even still on YouTube.

Criterion Collection put some James Bond movies on laserdisc that had commentary tracks the studio didn't like. Criterion was forced to stop selling those discs and re-release them without the commentary tracks, but they made separate cassette tapes with the commentary.

As it is now, you could rip both the DVDs and CDs and combine them together as an MKV with a delay on the commentary track. You'd not have the show audio at all unless it's on the CD, or you'd have to mix the tracks, but the syncing/combining is really easy. Can then use with Plex or etc.
