We used to have loads of their Eastern relations in the Florida county where I live. Thanks to sprawl, despite a comprehensive plan in place supposedly designed to restrict growth, most of their habitat has been destroyed for housing subdivisions and shopping centers. Good luck finding any now.

The bird was not stressed. The image was taken from a long distance across a ditch full of water with a 700mm lens and the image was heavily cropped. When the owls are uncomfortable they typically fly away or crawl into their burrow. It’s the eyebrows though that make them always look “angry”. 🦉

We had some rainy days in a row. Today was sunny, and I went back to check on him. There he was-perched on a rock. I never cross the 4-5 foot path to get closer. I blow kisses to him, and he sits and watches me. Others try to get closer and he hides in the rocks.
