Germany is fine (but I’m biased 😘). Anywhere is fine as long as you’re not acting like a “typical asshole American tourist”. Don’t talk loud. Try to fit in. Speak basic polite phrases in the country’s language like asking if you can converse in English. You’ll be fine.

I would still go. In my experience, people get a quick read on you based on how you approach and appreciate their culture, much the same way here in N.O. They’ll see you’re cool and welcome you. 😊

My experience has been to start with New Orleans, and your conversations get a smile. London delivery shop broke their arm trying to help me send something back home. Rome cabbie stopped driving on the sidewalk and started asking about Fats Domino.

I agree with Mary! When we went to England in 2017, we were our pleasant selves and established we were not on that team. We were able to have a lot of discussions with folks about how not everyone is that way and learned a lot about how the world sees us. Be cool and you’ll be fine.

I'd say that people see foreigners traveling in their country (unless being rude jerks) as people who are more open-minded. Plus they love to compare and contrast their own politicians to ours.

I'm less worried about them hating me as a person for being an American than I am like travel restrictions because we don't have a vaccine for a new pandemic or god forbid Europe's next major war (Russia and its friends) which Trump is making sure we'll be on the opposite side of Europe, it seems
