They have a Union Contract with at least 2 Unions, that is binding. There is a board of Governors and they aren't going for this. They are short of staff and can't even hire more, and this will shut the mail down, everywhere.

It's a disaster, my country was also cutting government stuff like police, jail, medic care, elder care and now we have major problems, we have to let prisoners go because of lack of prisons and personal to guard them. In corona time, Germany had to help us, no space in hospitals.

My sense: The (blatantly illegal) DOGE project continues regardless, shutdown or no shutdown. I'm not convinced the Democrat's awful no-win choice actually matters that much. (I realize most people think the entire survival of democracy/the planet rests on it.)
