reagan was responsible for his iran-contra affair, aids crisis, massive deregulation, union-busting (firing 11,000+ traffic controllers), and repeal of fairness doctrine
jimmy carter would've won in 1980 if the inflation and unemployment rate had gotten lower, and the economy had gotten stronger
Maybe I'm wrong maybe it was nixon. but knowing he was the guy that came up with 'a rising tide raises all ships' annoys me. and I'm not gonna google it to see if I'm right or wrong.
All. The. Time. If he didn't get in bed with the religious right (aka Christian nationals aka white nationals), who knows what the GOP might look like in our country?
I repeat my initial statement. If you think "America" voted Trump in or that the consequences will only be felt *here* (the people hit first and hardest were those all over the world that relied on USAID) then you don't understand American elections or global geopolitics.
It's hard to reflect on life as a millennial and realise the deck was so stacked against you even if you're lucky because of that guy. Just a permanent siphon on all your potential happiness
I don't think the stuff he did was with ill intent. What makes me mad is that nobody pushed back on his stuff for 40 years when pretty much all his policies were proven blatantly ineffective after year 10.
I’m sure flooding black neighborhoods with heroin, trafficking weapons to Iran and trying to coup every democracy in South America was absolutely without any ill intent.
The problem is reagan is like trump. A puppet if it want him it would have been someone else. Need to get MOAR mad about everyone who hides in the shadows they cast, pulling the strings.
Yep, quite often; which at this point is now almost every day. I’ve never hated someone so much when I wasn’t even alive during his presidency. But man, he really laid the brick foundation for current times, huh.
I do, I really do, but if you do a little digging you'll find out that Nancy Regan is basically the reason AIDS wiped out the queer population of the US in the 1980s, so please do spare a thought to wishing Nancy a very merry "Rest in Piss, Bitch!"
In 1983, Hezbollah bombed the US Embassy & Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 258 Americans. Despite Iran’s ties, Reagan approved secret arms sales to Iran - delivered by Israel. In return for hostage help, profits funded the Contras, triggering the Iran-Contra scandal & exposing US hypocrisy.
Nixon was never jailed for his crimes.
Reagan was never jailed for his crimes.
Trump was never jailed for his crimes.
The US allows men like these to commit crimes and not only get away with them, but become honored as historical figures.
The US is sick at its core.
Yes, I'm really mad about it.
Having POTUS say government is bad ("The nine most terrifying words in the English language...") possibly the most (pre-Trump) irresponsible, untrue, & harmful to our country thing a POTUS has ever said, so to answer your Q: YES!

It makes me giggle.

The Berlin Wall coming down in '89 was my intro into taking notice of politics, but I had to cook for a few years to really get into it.
IIRC, he waited only nine days to tell them to stop being murderous bullies, not drag it out for 18 months like modern leaders.
That's the only kudos I'll give him.
Except instead of voice acting cool characters, it’s making society worse in every possible way
I will take the goofy callousness and blind spots of neo-liberalism over the intentional cruelty of fascism any day.
is one such thing I was thinking of recently...
Did we simply not realize that Bedtime with Bonzo was America's Punic Wars?

I'm going to say that is not a coincidence.
