Mac works for me because I'm bought into the ecosystem. I have an iphone, ipad, macbook and a mac mini hooked up to the TV. They all work almost seamlessly together and I can pick up on one device where I left off on another. But if that's not you, then I can see the benefits are more marginal.

Oh, and one last thing? If Apple actually let people run Mac OS on the iPad pro, I would probably buy one.

I long a netbook-sized computer with the power to do everything I need which could be docked like my laptop.

But they continue to arbitrarily separate iPad OS and Mac OS. And I know why.

I just got one, love it for the most part, but arbitrary restrictions like not being able to supply audio to two applications at once, or only being able to hear audio from one app at a time is the most infurating shit I've ever dealt with. Got Logic Pro on the device but won't let me do what I need

For the netbook sized computer that can be docked and used like a tablet, be sure to check out the Surface 2 in 1s (not the newest one with ARM unless you like weird compatibility issues). They're really incredible for being powerful, real laptops that are small and function as a tablet

I would have, but the problem I face is that when I am traveling I need more screen real estate to edit video.

So I'm lugging around an XPS 17. 98% of the time it's docked, but when I travel its screen is a godsend.

That reality means that even if I had what I was longing for it may not work :(

Now if it were cheap enough to be an *extra* device that's one thing - but then we're right back to the problem of "if my laptop is docked 98% of the time, its size is only an inconvenience when traveling - yet I want its size when traveling"

so I think I'm just stuck being a big laptop guy.

That's valid! I had the same wants, and what ended up servicing me well was a larger portable monitor I keep in my bag as a second screen & primary when working, and use the small screen on the surface when I'm just checking something or only have a minute. It's not cheap though, which is your point
