I think that video was about how the requirement for two staircases makes it difficult to build mid sized housing since having two staircases makes smaller buildings less space efficient. It's not just about large apartment complexes

I think we'll have some in some smaller cities. We already have 10 mph cobble streets in a couple spots in Cambridge MA. I don't think it'll be that difficult to go from that to "no cars" and then to "we can narrow the road to expand a neighboring open space or dining area"

i mean new york definitely has streets like this along the southernmost bit of manhattan

not many of them, and theyre all covered in luxury condos now, but theyre there

presumably like boston and philly do too

but yeah youd have to build a city - or at least a neighborhood - from scratch

Make them smaller. We also have fire protection here + masonry building is much less flamable than wood or whatever you build with. Also not need huge buildings + hydrants every few houses.

I just don't understand why you'd need huge firetrucks inside a mid density area.

Me neither as the majority of the time they're first responders for anything but fires.

It'll be even harder than changing the zoning regulations here. Big red firetrucks are ingrained into our psyche.

From what I understand it's caused by a series of building code requirements such as requiring two internal stairs. All of these combined make the smaller and slimmer projects less viable.
