Sometimes the editor *loved* your story. But space constraints. Or it was too similar to another piece for *waves hand* reasons. Or something that had *nothing* to do with your work.

I've yet to make a professional sell, and that's irksome. A couple of years ago though, an editor friend told me he'd really fought for one of my faves; but it was the length. That made me feel better.
But, I do have enough of them that I am thinking about compiling a short story collection now.
Oh, and let me amend that, I have sold one short story. Someone took a chance on another ~5Ker. π
Lick your wounds. Feel your feels. Love on your story. Dust it off if you received actionable, sensible feedback. Then send that thang right back out there.
