This is why parent participation and membership in PTA is so important. They support LGBTQIA, undocumented families, everyone, & offer ways for families to advocate at the local, state and federal level. I know folks in FL PTA and CA PTAs and they work so hard for families; they need help/support.

If the orders carry, many families won't feel safe keeping their kids in public schools, even if they've long supported public education. And many teachers will quit out of fear and frustration. So, families who stay will see declining school quality, and eventually they'll also be driven away. 2/

Basically, I read this EO less as an effort to make public schools more conservative-friendly (that's just a convenient cover story) and more as an effort to destroy trust in and ultimately dismantle public schools. 3/

This EO isn't going to restore MAGA parents' trust in public education. It's just going to confirm their (unfounded) fears about public schools. Which is why (as with attacks on higher education) I don't think the real goal is to make public institutions more hospitable to multiple views. 4/

The families who stay also include families who can’t easily leave. I wonder where charter schools that can remain open will fit in to this.

Exactly. Even families who can't afford private school or homeschooling may increasingly look to charter schools, with the available options serving for-profit and conservative interests.

What all these EO's have in common is the lack of a factual basis. The blather is just someone's homophobic/ racist/ sexist/ misogynistic /ableist opinion.

Here it's claimed that teachers are "steering students toward surgical and chemical mutilation".

Saying a thing doesn't make it true.

It’s always been about getting the money into private hands. That’s why California tried “Charter Schools.” Offer an alternative without public money leaving public schools. It’s been somewhat helpful. (I taught for 30 years.)
