controversial opinion maybe but "filler" is literally necessary for a story to be good. if your show is constantly escalating stakes and moving the plot forward im gonna get burnt out and also have zero attachment to the characters involved

never understood those who say that you should skip say Amphibia season 1 because it doesn’t focus much on the plot, as you’d be missing out on a lot of character development and worldbuilding that makes the show so great, and some elements of the “filler” do return in later episodes
You know it's bad when you're audibly sighing and dreading the next episode because some big new thing is about to happen and they won't let you take a break for five minutes
I think people have forgotten that “filler” is a production term where when anime adaptations caught up to the source material, the anime studio just made shit up to fill the air slot. The things people have co-opted as “filler” are character / relationship growth, world building, etc.
You’re right - If every moment was action, it’d be terrible. We need the moments in between the action to actually care about the characters. We kind of need to move away from the idea that action scenes are the only reason to engage with something.
