Folks are mostly missing the forest for the trees re: the recent Meta announcement. Specifically, the focus on the move from fact checking to community notes. There two different changes that are a much bigger deal that have received less focus. 🧵 1/11

What fascinates me is how Meta = a mirror in good and ugly ways. Maybe I’m oblivious, but in Quebec, I rarely (not never) come across hate speech. My algorithm is food oriented because work but still. Unfortunately no country will be safe as impact of US, UK & Co are 1 vote or tragedy away I guess.

The trees in that forest are exactly who/what we think they are aka right leaning and uncivil to get you to see the forest aka their worldview and their attitudes as they see it and hold towards it edging one into conformity. Once again not complicated.

Thank you for the reminder. That was after allowing his platform to help🇷🇺 interfere via Assange in trump’s 2016 election by using GRU level of disinformation. Soon after former Chancellor Merkel warned Zuck to not let it happen in her re-election. Zuck continued it all to push thru Brexit in UK

There are people who worked at Facebook who completely understand what a pathetic and self interested con Mark is trying to pull here. At the very least he remains breathtakingly superficial in his understanding of free speech and at the worst just as willfully ignorant about how dangerous he is.
