I wonder if this is how automakers felt about having seat-belts until it became clear that seat-belts are necessary while driving. A lot of people died or were maimed in that in-between time.

Europeans have the best approach. Regulate it, contain it making sure it doesn't destabilize society and the financial markets. AI is too massive to allow it to grow where the money is. Collateral damage could be existential.

Unfortunately, Trump/GOP want little regulations. A campaign payback!
