To be fair, the hegemony wasn't unilateral, it was because large parts of the world preferred the US as hegemon to the alternatives and got global goods instead (USAID, stability, freedom of navigation etc.). The reason the US hegemony is ending is internal - oligarchic capture, not external.

Almost always they fall from within. Ours is supported primarily by the ability to inflate (“print”) the dollar while other countries still want the dollar because their currencies are even worse. Counterfeiting the currency is very destabilizing. The Federal Reserve and banks do it all the time.
