Yearly reminder to check and update your emergency kit. Whether you're worried about natural disasters or the outbreak of violence, having medical supplies, water, food, backup documents, and other necessities is helpful and good, but only if you make sure whatever you have still works.
Comments
(Usually the advice I see is, "think about everything you'd need for thirty days," and that isn't actually helpful)
Recommendations to follow.
Light - handcrank flashlight, battery glowstick, chem glowstick
Fire - waterproof matches, stick lighter, flint firestarter
Water - Bottled water, canteen, purification tablets or lifestraw (I have the latter for ease of use)
Food - Basic supply of dense high calorie stuff to get through; if planning for extended, camping pots and stove and fuel source; small salt and pepper!
Comms - radio (my crank flashlight is a combo radio); backup cell can be good; chargers
Misc - Duct tape, plastic tubing, knife, ziploc bags, little clips, cash, backup credit card, backup docs on encrypted drv
May not be related, but some supplies for "one bag travel" could be good, too: a Flexoline for hanging laundry, laundry detergent sheets, collapsible bucket/pot.
