Because many would think e-book referred to the content: "you can get the Bible as an e-book", but your point is good. It's because an e-book can hold many e-books 🤷
It basically solves a non-existent problem: how do I carry lots of books around with me? Answer is you don’t, unlike music you just carry the book you’re currently reading. If you prefer to use a Kindle, fine, but let’s not pretend it’s a groundbreaking step forward.
Usually two, and I get through around seven books each time. Using an e-reader also guarantees that I won’t run out of things to read (unlike when I assumed three books would be enough for a two-night work trip).
I like my e-reader (not a kindle lover), but it'll never completely replace the thrill of buying a book, or reading an actual book. Plus it's very hard to see what other people are reading on an e-reader...

Surely the e-reader is someone who reads e-books not the actual device.
e-ink is clever stuff anyway, and mine runs #Doom.
Albeit badly.
Ebooks being so fiddly unless you stay in the DRM'd walled garden is a great shame though.
You would have to be a total fool to own one.
