I also used to do this, not to rain on your parade but the "pic" chips were a bit more than 15p and I used to charge £30. I did not make enough for a deposit on a house.

In the 90s I suppose with a £4000 deposit you'd have to mod 160 Playstations. It's not too far out of the realms of possibility, but I doubt he'd hang on to that money inbetween jobs, so to speak, it probably went up his nose.

About 200 consoles would get you a house deposit in the 90s outside of a major city by my calculations. 4 consoles an hour, so seems doable if you had a good network of customers.

Quite a niche fess, (despite being on the wrong channel), I suspect it's probably true.
