#Adoptee s find this difficult. No one will allow us to know who we are. Thankfully I have found my birth family through DNA. Who I am is a question that is finally being answered in part.

I do Paul Im French Norman/Swedish/Irish/Flemmish/ English with Tudor and Plantagenet royal ancestry and a few famous writers and artists in my tree. Im very typical of the people that live where I was born.

I will reread this when I get the chance. My family tree research has made me feel quite differently about elements of British culture, notably the Church of England. I was brought up RC, but now feel much more that I belong in this country in general, if that makes sense.

Sometimes we feel connected or disconnected to places or events that we cannot explain. It’s only when we discover a connection to the past that we can fully understand that feeling

As a descendant of recent migrants, knowing where & the conditions my ancestors left, fills a bit of a void. As a bit of a mutt, with no true pedigree, 😊 I sometimes envy people who know & actively practice their ancestral culture. My research has helped me to reconnect with some part of that.

Thank you! I don't understand my sister's complete disinterest in #genealogy . We wouldn't be here without our ancestors, so I feel a duty to learn about their trials, tribulations and trespasses. (Often they literally trespassed!) Their lives mattered. Maybe, I want to feel like I matter too? 🤷‍♀️

I think my interest really started through a love of history. It still blows my mind that I am related to people who lived through all the major events of the past several hundred years. I am grateful for all they went through. And yes, finding out about them gives me a sense of identity.
