Argentina has come out of a deep recession in a major victory for the country’s unorthodox President Javier Milei, who has spent the past year enacting sweeping — and painful — reforms in Latin America’s third-largest economy

Glossing over the fact that the extreme poverty rate DOUBLED under Milei in just one year. The economic conditions rise just for the elite while pensioners and commonfolk starve and see their quality of life fall off a cliff.
Sounds good. But am reading that up to 50% of the population have slipped into severe poverty and people are desperate. Can we hear from people in Argentina?!
Can't see how if it leaves people starving with no motivation and no investment, no hope? Are people screaming in the streets or are they being silenced ?
South american politics is complex and embroiled in issues inherited from colonial past and military dictatorships, but there seems to be a pattern of alternating between progressive/labor oriented politicians and then conservative/capital oriented politicians.
Was in south America for a year and understand in part the many moving layers. Argentina has its own.
But can't seem to get a handle on how people are feeling in Argentina. Does anyone hold any hope? Is there major distress? Or have people given up?
From what I can tell, being a neighbour (I am brazilian btw), people are making do, taking it one day at the time. I doubt people feel completely hopeless, this is not their first economic crisis, in fact Argentina went through a few of them, as we did in Brazil. The only concern, I think, is with+
It might be that Milei's failure to improve the situation of both middle and working classes will lead them towards a more progressive, social welfare oriented candidate in the next poll. But this particular economic crisis runs deep, and it is unclear how - or if - a new president can sort the mess
I think the article should have dug a bit more into the consequences of 'Milei's miracle'. Something more than 'But these measures have also pushed up unemployment and the poverty rate.
It’s a promising beginning. Now need to translate GDP growth with decreasing unemployment and poverty. It won’t be easy but better than hyperinflation they had for years…
U could pick a crackhead from the street and he would be able to do the same thing Milei did. Cutting expenses while sending ppl to poverty and hunger isn't "reforms"
People are starving sure, but look how beautiful this graph is.
Rich people getting richer. Shareholders rejoicing. What a gorgeous outlook! *_________*
Way to go CNN. Lots of info here. Even that the orange menace wants to use that strategy. NO MENTION of how we aren’t in the same predicament. NO MENTION of how good our economy is CURRENTLY. NO MENTION of what services were cut in Argentina that are causing poverty and unemployment. So close
Okay, hmmm over 50% of the population are in poverty, food prices are skyrocketing, and parents are starving so they can at least feed their children, how is that a success??
When this atrocious experiment fails (and believe me, it will), the people will rise all over the world against the rich. And they (you) will fear us again
It's incredible how a maneuver to improve the country's macroeconomy and consequently the country's numbers and those of large investors, at the expense of the general population, can be considered a "success". For whom? People are considered just a workforce.
It would be great for CNN to spend more than five minutes on this so that maybe the American public can learn more about the world and our place in it versus say around the around the clock programming of panels talking about Trump’s tweets.
Trickle down economics is a lie, USA is the perfect case study. And by now Argentina hit 18% extreme poverty rate, doubling in just a year under Milei.
I agree that trickle down doesn't work. The rich get richer and when the economy improves the poor and middle class only benefit marginally with little gains and menial jobs.
But will we the left move back into power when even the poor support people like him and Trump? Sobering...
The only way out of this mess is with direct action but there's yet to make such a movement possible. People are angry but they're still not channeling their anger and resentment at the root of the problem.
According to the article, he has “caused more poverty and unemployment”. So because of his policies, the rich have only gotten richer and the poor have only gotten poorer.
Now this I like to see! Under Milei, the poverty rate in Argentina went to new records, but who cares?! The economy I care about is finally looking like a place that will make me and my shareholder buddies some easy money! #Winning #Capitalism
Well…Argentina has been so extremely mismanaged for decades that it has to hit bottom at some point. Ignorant lunatics in the USA thinking that they can do Milei politics and reach the same effects are badly deceived and will harm the country possibly beyond repair.
of course, we have to keep the illusion that this is an absolute success, and all countries should aspire to do the same. After all, you have to keep the money-hoarders happy, and if we starve a few people in the process, you know, it is just collateral damage, right?
China is buying AG products from South America in larger quantities since Trump started his easy to win trade wars that have & will further desemate the Murican farmer

Javier Milei’s Argentina overcame a deep recession by targeting inefficiencies and enacting bold, unorthodox reforms.
Takeaway for young professionals: To achieve progress, identify where systems or habits are vulnerable.

So he fixed the "economy" and left the people behind.
People are literaly dying from starvation and the poverty rate is over 50%
You psycho fucks
This is capitalism, friend. You should be mad at those people in poverty for not becoming smart shareholders.
Piece of cake.

Imagine coming out of a deep recession only to go into another way worse and deliberate.
Will it trickle down to the poor and middle class long term? We shall see. The bad part is that Milei is a conservative fascist like Trump...
But will we the left move back into power when even the poor support people like him and Trump? Sobering...
Unemployment is 7.60%
Nearly all his "policies" are facing judicial review as they are blatantly illegal.
