CNN's dismissive and disrespectful newspeak phrase "diversity ambitions" is way off the mark, seemingly deliberately so. While there might be specific goals, DEI policies are not "ambitions," but instead are practices that intentionally work at overcoming a history of exclusion and systemic bias.
The closest one to me is 90 miles away, but I still am a member. You can buy online too. I make a Costco run about once every 2-3 months, load up my freezer and pantry, and enjoy a day out of town.
White nationalists are no longer the majority of customers at Costco. America is a big place, haters. Get to know your new neighbors. They might teach you something. And having them on staff and in the boardroom helps shareholders.
Do these companies that are bowing down to "anti-DEI" bigots really think that will improve their customer base? In the 21st century are we really NOT shopping at stores that hire and promote folk that aren't lily white?
I find myself continually astounded by my own naivete when it comes to stuff like this. The active, shameless pandering to the fears and hatred of bigoted white folk shouldn't shock me. After all, it's the Republican Party's core governing principle.
We can get rid of DEI initiatives if we get rid of Race and the Caste System in America. Let’s go Post Racial and identify as American or Non American. DEI can go if we are truly ready to move to a post racial society in America.
I just finished doing up my DEI policy and wont let anyone make me take it down. I have and always will be proud to be bisexual!
To those who say im going to hell, already bought my flight to there.
I was always hesitant about Costco… but after I listened to #aquired podcast on #costco I had a change of heart… I am impressed with their policies towards their suppliers and employees. Now this? A prime example of a company doing the right thing.
And doing well by doing the right thing. Their pro-union ways, their skew towards organic and healthy house brands, their support for small and local businesses, and now their DEI stance are the reasons I shop there instead of other stores.
@cnn.com good for Costco. About time a corporation stood up to the bullies. Might have to get a Costco membership even though the nearest one is 30 minutes away.
Smart decision. Costco understands that the inclusion of diversity among its people builds a stronger business, where more people want to work — and spend their money
Good for Costco! We can’t let far right extremists take back the progress we’ve made to support and uplift the LGBTQIA2S+ community and other minority communities. Systemic racism has oppressed these groups for hundreds of years.
Why the fuck does the National Center for Public Policy Research (whatever that bullshit name actually means) have any say in how Costco runs its business? Are they shareholders?
ONLY businesses should pay taxes - period. No more taxing citizens. We CAN sustain our needs & grow this way. We CAN have free medical for all citizens. It's only our belief system that says, "we can't do it." Let's remove Citizens United & create a tri-partisen ethics committee for SCOTUS. #change
The FDA has issued a Class I recall for Costco Kirkland eggs, a designation reserved for instances of the highest potential health risk — including death.
Costco has it right. DEI isn’t affirmative action, and it doesn’t mean reduced standards for employees. To the contrary, it means IMPROVED standards b/c employers hire from a bigger pool. And because diversity and inclusion make companies more dynamic.
Thank you Costco for taking a stand for diversity when other are buckling from the Right wing noises machine. 👏👏👏. I see non of the same pressure applied to Donald Trump cabinet picks.
Well … it sounds like Walmart, John Deere and Tractor Supply are anti-DEI. So, it not just the Nation Public Policy Research Institute or conservative think tanks.
It's fucking funny how none of these anti-woke idiots take their smartphones in their backyards and shoot them up, seeing as how Apple and Google are two of the most woke companies on the planet...
I will be renewing my membership after all! Bravo Costco. It’s rare for companies to actually lead rather than only spread their legs for the mighty dollar.
In a civilized society, we should measure success in a corporation by other means besides just profits. Measure their character and morality and how they treat their workers, suppliers and customers. Profits no matter the consequences is evil.
Too bad communists need to leave. I spell this Diversity,Equality,Inclusion but thats not what Costco supports. They believe that equity is not a fanatical feminist keyword that's not even supported by our U.S Constitution/our military for that matter. Equity means not everyone on the"farm"is equal.
If Costco doesn't make its CUSTOMERS happy (by hiring folks who look like and understand the customers) they aren't going to make the stockholders happy. Too bad the minority white male supremacists among the stockholders don't understand that they're — as always — acting against their own interest
I'm not sure what word to use to describe it, but it's "something" watching elected U.S. govt officials and corporate CEOs fight over H-1B Visas, while the Black American tech community is pushed further away from opportunities with bans on #DEI + #SupplierDiversity throughout corporate America.

Standing up for diversity 💙
It’s so hard being a straight, white guy.
They stand up straight and lead all by themselves.
And, how can any decent human being or group be against "diversity ambitions," or is that just CNN-speak for being fair to employees?
I'm glad Costco told that group to pound sand.

Oh, wait, republicans.

The other companies dirty little secret is they could easily turn a profit with better wages and and lower prices
Costco is proof
People will say it doesn’t affect anything, but CEO pay sure seems like a lot of money that the companies are just throwing away to one person
How can it not?
If I took home $30 million in 3yr(AKA 1yrs pay to some CEOs)
I’m pretty sure I’d never need to work again. On the interest alone.
They could just work for free after that
If so, why would they need to change?
