If earth gets too inhospitable for humans it doesn't mean other life won't flourish if we go. Over 90% of species that have ever existed are extinct. We're not a special case
Oh, yeah, this really stirs people up so they'll join your cause.... NOT. I can't believe the foolishness of these people, but it's a good thing. They are losing any chance of mass support day by day.
Pictures released by Just Stop Oil showed two protestors – a 66-year-old and a 77-year-old – sitting cross-legged on the floor near Darwin’s grave, which Just Stop Oil said they had painted with spray chalk, a type of washable, non-toxic material.
Imagine defacing the grave of Darwin knowing what the legal consequences will be and then sitting there smugly, waiting to be hauled away KNOWING that they are going to throw the book at you.
There’s stupid and then there’s this whole other level.
My freedom is more important than any useless cause
Ironically it is your freedom to exist on this planet that they are staging this protest for. I would say that's pretty noble. (And it's only chalk, so hardly defacing).
Oddly enough, they have no solutions. “Stopping Oil” is all fine and good. What will it be replaced with? Care to tell emerging nations that sorry, you can’t have oil fired electricity anymore because we’ve stopped oil? What will ships run on? There are so many problems with this idea.
You don’t have any answers either, do you?
No, you don’t.
If you’re going to engage on the internet, at least try and be interesting or intelligent. Both are preferable, but you could pick one. You haven’t yet.
So now they have got you engaged enough that you want to discuss solutions. There are numerous alternatives to fossil fuels. Look at sites like this to see the many options that exist if we put our minds to it.
HAHAHA
No, see, that’s not how it works.
What do you tell 3rd world countries with limited resources and electricity that they can’t burn fossil fuels for oil anymore?
Where is the money going to come from for these alternatives?
Come on, man.
Engage.
True protest does not need to use destruction of property as a tool...a clear message, thoughtful suggestions for solutions, and respectfully demanding voices be heard seemed to get successful results in history past...
That's good to hear. It still just isn't as effective as offering solutions or creating them in my opinion. True protesters create solutions and pitch in.
Passivity is not at all the same as nonviolence or as creating solutions. I believe in true protest with solutions, a purpose, and systems that are created. This display offered nothing to solve anything or create anything new. I agree that passivity does nothing.
Why do these environmental activists have to deface things - it is not a good way of getting their message across. All it does is make people angry and cost the taxpayers money to clear up their mess plus arrest, legal aid and, sometimes, prison. Discussion - public meetings better way.
They’ve being having meetings about since the 70s . I understand their intention is to get people to consider what the global scientific community are advising, catastrophic climate events in our lifetimes. Endless crop failure, starvation with no way of turning the clock back.
I’m convinced the oil lobby is paying these “protestors” to do ridiculously infuriating and widely unpopular publicity stunts to sway public opinion towards hatred of the clean energy movement.
As a broader derogatory term, it is comparable to prick and means "a fool, a dolt, an unpleasant person – of either sex". This sense is common in New Zealand, British, and Australian English. This is an international site.
Incident in Britain where the word is common and has a different meaning. Completely appropriate. They clearly meant to earn that label by desecrating a tomb. Given the act a mild reaction.

They’re actively hurting their own cause.
