The Canadian equivalent of the NIH should consider funding a bunch of studies monitoring what happens with vaccine-preventable diseases in Canada and the US over the next decade. Because a real-world laboratory is being created.

I used to run a testing team for a large corporation and was always happy when I uncovered natural experiments but what’s going on in the US with respect to vaccinations is so sad.
My one concern is that the Canadian population is influenced by American media, Social Media, and disinformation. We also have a major opposition party that has anti-vaccine members and policy positions. There will be increased vaccine hesitancy here as the US retreats on science and vaccines.
Absolutely true. We need to be tracking and watching the ways the US situation, media, etc., are influencing Canadians. And testing interventions to help Canadians build/maintain trust in vaccination services here despite what is happening to our south (and within our borders).
What, beyond routine epidemiological surveillance of vaccination rates & VPDs, are you thinking is the study/question here? Longitudinal ethnographic work to understand community attitude shifts, or…?
