Low productivity jobs like running the CDC and high productivity jobs like mining iron ore

This “genius” genuinely believes that healthcare budget analysts can simply be reassigned to making toasters.

OF COURSE someone whose whole career has been in sales & marketing can turn on the charm in a private setting! That doesn't mean it's less of a performance or more real than Trump's bombastic WWE rally persona. If he seems a bit smarter than that character, that makes him MORE culpable for misdeeds.

These people's deep disdain for the wondrously wide variety and potential interconnectedness of knowledge, experience, and understanding in this world is at the root of every horrible fucking thing they do. It honestly chafes & deeply galls to be ruled by such willfully ignorant & incurious people.

Trump exempting computers & phones from the tariffs today means that Chinese-made laptops now have lower tariffs than European Cars, Mexican Steel, & Canadian Lumber. Also means Vietnamese-made laptops have a lower tariff than Ethiopian coffee, Indian tea, & Guatemalan bananas

This seems right, and all of this is WRONG.

The scope of the Trump immigrant Holocaust is mostly going to depend on how strong our resistance is and how competent the Administration is at executing. It’s already started. The number of victims has a pretty wide range of possibilities.

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

Hours ago, @politico.com revealed that DOGE is working with DHS on automating mass deportation efforts — likely explaining why many US citizens, green card holders, and even a Canadian (in Canada) got threatening emails last night terminating “your parole” and telling them to leave the US in 7 days.

hey does anyone know the exact correct amount of attention to pay to current events because every amount I've tried feels like simultaneously way too much and not nearly enough

The "Boar on the Floor" scene from "Succession" dramatically underplayed the degree to which powerful people will debase themselves in order to curry favor with more powerful people.

Just a reminder that these are the people purporting to be outraged by antisemitism on campus. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/u...

The dems could do more messaging like this but they mostly refuse. The messaging wounds are absolutely self inflicted.

Right, because Grandma is on X. This is corruption, plain and simple.

The Senate confirmed Dan Caine as Chair of the Joint Chiefs 60-25 overnight. 15 Democrats voted yes, giving tacit approval to Trump's purge of military leadership.

weird, what could explain this

What we're seeing is that they don't have to destroy Social Security in a direct way, they can just make it so unusable and clunky that people lose their benefits.

The SAFE Act is clearly just an attempt at voter suppression mostly aimed at minority voters but the fact that it could deny married women who changed their last name to their husbands* the right to vote is extra fucked up! *another reason not to do this! www.tiktok.com/@cnn/video/7...

So thankful that the rest of the press preserved the dignity of these briefings by not standing in solidarity with the AP over the gulf of mexico

My God, the sheer cynicism of this. Forcing the poor and vulnerable to keep an account on your platform to receive the money that keeps them housed, fed, and alive. Digital serfdom

How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia? Before you open this thread, take a guess. Settle on a number and then compare it to what you'll learn in this thread. 🧵

From a practical standpoint, if the next Dem president chooses bipartisan healing over standing up to fascism, we’re just gonna wind up right back in the same place when the next chud president comes along

Don't let up. Don't look away. This is a crisis. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/04...

Years ago, one of my professors cut off a fellow student who was waxing poetic about people being "of" their time with respect to chattel slavery. He said: 'do you know who knew that enslavement was evil and morally disgusting? ENSLAVED AFRICANS.' Were they not of their time too? At 18, that stuck.

By my count, Trump has now extorted over a billion dollars from cowering Big Law firms. That's a lot of billable hours defending cops and ICE agents accused of brutality.

Cruelty for the sake of being cruel www.sltrib.com/opinion/bagl...

The Trump campaign saw it as a problem that voters thought he wanted "retribution," so he just dissembled and said (in a Fox interview where he got Qs in advance) that he would too busy to seek it. The cynical lesson for Dems: Lie. Say you won't do revenge, then make BigLaw do your laundry.

I'm guessing this is implicit and deliberate comment by whoever does the web layout?

Ominous AF.
