It's more likely to be slurry or just run-off from artificial fertilisers applied. There's a mix of grazing, silage and arable fields nearby, and also waterways connected to the lagoon.

Alongside Lady's Island is second lagoon of south Wexford, Tacumshin Lake SAC & SPA. Equally polluted. Equally in need of restoration. Bird numbers here have plummeted in past decade. Much run-off from agriculture.

Despite clearly identifying excessive intensive pastured livestock farming as the pollution cause, the report doesn't clearly identify cutting total watershed pastured dairy/livestock N (protein) production as crucial required remedial measure.
Buffer strips etc have minimal effect on mineral soils.
