This perspective really interests me because I loved BCS a lot more than BB, but the ending felt way too harsh for me, in part because I didn’t remember Saul’s actions well enough in BB to remember if it was deserved.

But I think that's part of why Saul ends how it does. They thought Walt was paying for his sins, and only after the fact realized he gets the perfect ending for his circumstance. I think that's why — in addition to it making sense for Jimmy as a character — Saul ends how *it* does.
