I mean, I stopped frequently going to Target the past year because their grocery side sucks and there isn’t anything else in their store that is special enough for me to go out of my way. It’s sad that we as American prioritize convenience sometimes though.
I just called to cancel and spoke with one of the supervisors (luckily they announced they were a supervisor when they picked up) and told them I was cancelling bc of their decision to remove the in-person lgbt shops, and now this decision, their alignment no longer meshes.
Are they, though? They've announced pride then rescinded because people complained, and we have a president who may or may not contribute to Black History even though he is supposed to by law but is rolling back black history in basic training.
Exactly. And Target is rolling back Dei just in time for Black History month and a whole bunch of new business spent time and money to get their products on shelf. For this. Slap in the face. The Black business needs our support. Shop intentional at Target. Boost Black biz.
I disagree. We need to shop intentionally. Can you imagine the power behind us if we all only bought Black and Brown business product. That would be a message. February is Black History month. If we don't buy their products Black businesses lose. Look at the timing and bigger picture. Watch Tabitha
Hopefully this will teach American citizens that our power lies together. If we mass boycott those who do not serve our interests, they will have no choice but to comply. Corporations have no issues bailing on citizens to serve their interests, so why should we?
I have worked at Target for ten years. Just because they are rolling back their OFFICIAL DEI initiatives, it does not mean they cannot still DO THE SAME PRACTICES . They can have DEI without it having to meet an official govt. mandate.
Read it out loud to yourself then google if the government required private businesses to have DEI policies THEN ask yourself if they stop doing something why would they continue to do the thing they just ended. Simping for a large corporation is sad and you should fight for better.
Yes. That Target. It's possible for multiple things to be true. It's a corporation that engages in awful corporate tactics, and it was also doing good work with DEIA expansions to address people's concerns. That's my point. What exactly is your point?
I'm well aware of how awful they are. I worked in Corporate America in the early 2000s when they were preying on new college grads of color and paying meager wages for intellectual contributions from marginalized communities.
That doesn't change the fact that these recent efforts were good.
We should talk about this, btw, if you’re up for it. I, too, found myself in that world for a short period, due to my own economic desperation (even with my privilege)
It’s crazy because I feel like we all kind of suspected the disingenuous nature of them putting BHM and pride items out every year but I didn’t think it was to this extent smh
I honestly don't think they will. Not too many alternatives, especially if people are in a food or supply desert. What will they do? Get Amazon instead?
I walk into a target and it looks like inclusiveness is a key part of their brand. I get that it is obviously just a marketing ploy now, but damn. They spent a decade advertising how diverse their customers were and the slightest push and they threw that away.
Just seeing this now. Well that means I stop going there now. F*ck it I know Amazon isn’t known for its DEI but I do t need to leave my house or interact with people so….
You must only pay attention 5% of the time. Their stock has been down already because MAGA boycotted them. So now MAGA will just go back and they wont lose jack shit.
I really hope they do. But I feel like sometimes target’s uh, target audience (ugh) is the type of folks who will forget before long if they even knew. Easy for me to avoid them since I rarely shop there. At least the people that care are not likely to let the ambivalent ones forget so easily.
This is as a middle class where we need to ban together start boycotting these giant corporations, and start creating our own independent companies, hiring each other, and letting these billionaires know what it’s like to have no food on their tables or even a table to their names
She is. I see her position now. And it's about to be Black History month w new featured Black businesses. If we don't shop there it could decimate their business. Please share!!
Hope so. They are certainly dead to me. But I never underestimate how much people will stick to routines because they’re unwilling to be inconvenienced.
I think boycotting target is easy enough but almost all the chain stores like them also bent the knee. The only one that didn’t is Costco. So which one do you choose?
I think it will be tough to boycott for some with that in mind but I applaud the effort.
This is why can't accomplish anything! We don't listen and get together with a plan. Tabitha directly impacted The timing of targets change is ruthless. Intentional. Black businesses at target need our purchases. I'm still going to shop intentionally and ask others too. https://youtu.be/QCluFRVNi8Y?si=J9bzx84v6wMhaal3
I follow Tabitha on TikTok and appreciate her content. My question is what do the impacted black-owned companies say would most help them? Buy direct? Buy up remaining stock at Target? It’s tricky.
DEI is about ensuring that people aren’t discriminated in the hiring process, not “hiring people based on skin color over merit.” This is a fucking retail job, not Secretary of Defense.
No that was the civil rights act of 1964. DEI is a relatively new phenomenon that allows for quotas based on skin color over merit in hiring practices….
That is simply not true. There is no job in the country that is being given to someone solely for their skin color other than the Secretary of Defense.
Perhaps look into Cisco’s corporate initiative to set quotas to hire people based on skin color as stated by their own policy. This is an example where it is clearly stated. There are plenty.
Absolutely not true. DEI recognizes that having a diverse workforce is a net positive for a corporation. Having equality in your workforce results in a better product because employees feels equally valued. Inclusion means all voices are heard allowing for alternative takes on a decisions.
Also all the DEI corporate training has been very racist. I know from personal experience. The people of color in my company thought ours was a joke and complained to HR…. I won’t say my company but it’s media based
I watched a video on your tube by Tabitha yesterday, a Black woman who is in contract w Target. She suggested shopping very mindfully and continue buy Black owned products. Feb is Black History month!! If we don't shop there and buy they lose!!
Tabitha specifically outlines this . They've already spent money. The stores won't carry their products if we don't buy them. It's about a big market vs small. It's about jobs. Please watch both Tabitha's videos.
