I know the Democrats have abandoned their historical roots but it’s fucking insane to me that they cannot grasp that they are witnessing an FDR-level remaking of the American system and that by the time ‘their time’ comes there won’t be anything left for them to act upon.
Visibly fight. Use the Mitch McConnell playbook: force votes even on things they will lose. Offer repeated votes on bills that will never make it out of committee. Deny unanimous consent. Sit on nominations. Shut down everything. Make quorum calls at inconvenient times.
I agree. But fair warning: If the Dems push those tools too hard, the R's will take those tools away. Filibuster, gone. Blue slips, gone. Unanimous consent....
Then make them take it away. Make them change the rules. The belief that we only have One Good Filibuster coming up so we should save it for the one that matters is insane. (Because, as you say, it’ll get taken away.)
I agree. And reappointing Dick Durban to lead the Dems on the judiciary committee showed that they have not learned any lesson. He was still letting them block Biden's court appointees a month ago.
They spent the presidential campaign telling us that this could be a battle for the last election of our lives. If so, why the hell are they saying “we just have to wait for 2026?”
They might come around but jeffries can't even fake not being indignant that he has to do something other than talk to rich people. Schumer sucks in some ways but he at least enjoys talking to people
Schumer and Gillibrand have yet to respond to my emails begging them to wake up. At least Josh Riley answers with a form letter saying some good things- he’s pissed! He’s fighting back by sponsoring legislation to stop the criming! In the Repub controlled House. GFL
Their plan was to pretend Trump was a normal president with a mandate who they had to support to some extent. Some are aware of what’s happening but many are frustrated that their planned capitulation can’t happen.
It's an ancient strategy -- I used to frequent Daily Kos back in the Bush Era and remember the endless keeping the gunpowder dry excuses from Dem leadership over TWENTY years ago. Guest that gunpowder is still dry.
