I like to imagine that's how some users watch vertical videos on YT, Insta, TT etc., constantly grumbling about the horizontal gap running through the middle of the frame.
Yeah it's very useful for games, especially those that require you to have a wiki open at all times. Alt+tabing with only one monitor can get frustrating
Also Streaming, working in multiple applications at once, watching YouTube while working, etc.
Also also there are four computers at my desk and this can display all four at once (the screens can display two inputs side by side). I’ve never had to use that, but it exists 😂
I've wanted an ultrawide for a while now but I have a feeling I'm going to run windowed borderless with a smaller resolution so I don't lose real estate to the sides
I don’t want anything large enough to make me need to turn my head, and I don’t see enough games with that aspect ratio supported but oh man do those monitors look fun.
I can’t show you my monitor right now because it’s all work stuff and therefore confidential, but while it’s “strictly speaking” unnecessary it can be INCREDIBLY useful
I understand. I mean, unnecessary for me. I work in an ultra wide 34" and it's more than enough for coding ( in my case). As I said, I'd like to have those screens as well.
What’s the model of the base one and what kind of mounting setup are you using? I could really use a setup like this at work. So many different pieces of software to cross reference at once
Cool! I assume you are a developer, right? Do you find it comfortable to code on ultra-wide monitors? I was thinking of getting myself a vertical one, instead
I am a developer, and also a consultant, and business person, and other random stuff. Here's how I usually use it during the work day.
For personal, I usually move Rambox up where mail is, move the browser up to the middle where workchat is (or put discord or slack there), bottom for IDE/Games/etc
It lets you dock web apps. So like, it’s a glorified tab group in one sense, but I have it set up with all of my social sites, notion, my calendar, slack, discord, and then workgroups for some important service sites
It'd probably still put back bars top and bottom. 😄
I really hate shortscreen video. They act like it's supposed to be an improvement in some way, but how can restricting the viewing area be an improvement?
There must be some ppl who figured out ultrawide screen support for it 😄 and you can turn off the letterboxes off in game.
But I actually like them. the game was made with the CinemaScope aspect ratio in mind and I love cinematic games!
ever gone to the theater? the screen is almost never fully taken up; the aspect ratios of cinema vary widely (many old school iMax reels did but that's an exception)
many films will vary aspect ratios for different scenes, people mostly don't notice while immersed in the films
Yes, until this trend of going for short-screen ratios they used to fill the screen properly, because 16:9 was the standard, but now we get a smaller production not using the top and bottom, like this sort of game.
I see, but it was more immersive for me with the letterboxing 👁️✨ it just fit the whole aesthetic and look of the game.
Maybe the people who complained back then played it on a small screen? To me it was a bold creative decision and felt like I'm playing a movie.

Bottom one: Personal Laptop
On the screens: Work Computer

*One Massive overload of information later*: “dear god what have I done?”
*Later still*: “oh okay yeah this is actually really useful”

The iPad usually displays my schedule for the week or is used for notes, and the personal laptop is because Personal/Work sandboxing

I don't see how not utilising all the space available makes it more cinematic. I want as much immersion as possible.

Question: what monitor(s) are those?
That's a flipping battlestation.
You have more screenspace than I do.
And I have 3 computers under my desk 😱
Are the 2 big screens useful in a specific way or is it just preference?
I never really got into the larger curved screens (they always confused me) so I’m actually just curious
For reference here’s my desk: you can see the monitors go down in size lol
