The UHC CEO murder, and the discussion that followed, should make us closely examine the utility of corporations skimming their take of our health care dollars. Do they provide sufficient public benefit, or ANY at all? They certainly get rich off of us.
they aren't just "skimming"... they actively deny, block, and delay care while doing their best to waste the physician's time and drive up their office expenses. I think their goal is to make their contracted physicians give up on providing care
I am a capitalist to the core but markets are not much good when the entity paying is not the entity receiving the goods and services and there is no way to "shop around". As long as insurance companies are the payers, while the recipients are regular people, this crap will continue.
Capitalism at its worse, was during the industrial revolution, which is displayed by atrocities in the Jungle by Upton Sinclair. Capitalism without regulations is cancer that can destroy society by giving license to a few to
exploit the many and legally control them by using
government corruption.
What's the impact of guns on U.S. life expectancy numbers? Not to take away from the "our quality of care leads to bad outcomes" argument, simply adding an "oh, yeah. we have this other problem too" argument.
Good morning Scott! My 26 year old son is aging out of my wife's health insurance. He was offered to continue with plan through Cobra for $1280 a month. Staying healthy costs you.
The math in a state like TN is even more depressing, where we refuse Medicaid expansion. Due to lack of preventative care and early detection, the dollars for healthcare get spent on critical late stage care for avoidable conditions, all so we can top the country in medical bankruptcy.
And the differences are even more stark beyond lifespan. The US suffers 13.1 suicides per 100000 people - compare that to social democracies like Sweden (9.9), the UK (7.6) and Canada (8.2). Oh and for all that nonfunctionality you also have record medical debt and bankruptcies. Freedom!
This would be a good time to review the business case for single payor. Profit by insurance companies and Pharma distorts the marketplace. Bring the advocates on your shows and hear them out. https://pnhp.org/
We have the worst possible health care apparatus in the industrialized world. A bastardized system of oligopolgies and no player big enough to hold cost control leverage over suppliers. It's neither capitalism nor socialism. A cash cow for insurance and big pharma.
I’d be curious in the data cut for the higher wage earner with decent insurance. My theory is that there’s a hidden socioeconomic gap tied to life expectancy that is a combination of better food and healthcare options.
It’s shameful for the richest country in the world to perform so poorly. It’s a choice we make as a country because half the country is dumb/ignorant/arsonistic/lack critical thought and vote against their (and everyone’s) self interest.
How much of the US's discrepancy in health outcomes is because of being fatter and more addicted than our peers? It definitely costs several times more than it should.
Ouch, that is pretty bad indeed. Whenever I’m in the USA watching TV I am always shocked with the amount of pharma ads! Well that, and switching between Fox and CNN on a similar news item.
Some people believe… It’s not a question of efficiency. It’s a question of greed and how a few can cash-in on the misfortune of others. It’s about giving license to a few to exploit the many. Is it now legal for profitability supersedes the right of people to have a quality life?
Maybe, but interesting fact: US also is the richest and biggest country here. That means, US is not France, is not Germany. You can,t just ‘duplicate experience’. Seems like a manipulation
Astonishing and not in a good way. And yet every time any politician suggests improvements to our "bad, but expensive" healthcare insurance system they're immediately branded "socialists" or "communists." The self-destructive gullibility of the American public knows no bounds.
Yet you continue to teach business and teach students how to cut corners for corporations, ultimately fueling our health epidemics, housing crisis, inflation, and so on.
I just watched Good Works interview with you. You only appear to be an angry and miserable person. Very shameful

Gravity is good, but wings are possible. Flight is possible. Avoiding the (very literal) pitfalls of gravity is possible.
Avoiding the pitfalls of capitalism is possible. Public purchasing is possible. Utilities. Services.

Republicans always say stuff like "You'll lose your doctor. Waiting times will be forever."
They obfuscate cost by breaking it into parts: premiums, deductibles, co pays, medicare tax. No ones sees the full picture.

This suggests inefficiencies.
Why does U.S. healthcare spending fail to deliver longer lives, and what does this reveal about its priorities?
