My dad died at 58 from the water contamination issue at camp lejeune, I was 22. He was quiet & I never had deep conversations with him about life or ask about his childhood. But I spent years focusing on what I lost vs focusing on my mom & family who was left to love & create memories with.

Same thing happened to my first hubs-youngest of four, the only one still living at home- 13 yrs old. One day, the father bought him a guitar, said ‘I’m leaving’. The guy left his son’s life. Blind-sided a child. Destroyed him- he never recovered from the abandonment.
