A fascinating thread from an actual expert (or at least appears to be! https://engineering.ucmerced.edu/content/crystal-kolden ) Sharing relevant information and context about a news event. This is what I truly loved most about Golden Age Twitter.

Itβs chaparral. Nearly every native plant is either adapted to environments that frequently burn or they actually require it to propagate. Mix in ornamental eucalyptus (non-native fire bombs), no rain since May, 100yr old homesβ¦β¦
There is a Noire story from the 70's called The Underground Man by Ross Macdonald that takes place, in part, during an LA wildfire. It's the frequency and time of year that's unusual.
Not an expert but do have some ways to reduce fire spread in your home. Put all flammable liquids, aerosols, and big batteries in a sealed bin away from your house. Remove curtains ,rugs ,and loose papers that fire can travel along easier.
If you have an electric car keep in mind to move it way from structures as batteries burn hotter than gasoline and can't just be put out with water. Generally due to difficulty of putting out you have just let them burn out.
inb4 politico rushes out a news blast that this IS the first time these places have burned, and you hastily repost it asserting that you had it wrong all along.
This is EXACTLY why #ManagedRetreat is gonna happen one way or another. Way 1 is state and local governments FORCE Managed Retreat. Way 2 is the insurance market simply stops covering these areas. See my threadπhttps://bsky.app/profile/adreanalangston.bsky.social/post/3lfazwkiil22q
A really good analysis. Unfortunately, the only ones really paying attention were the insurance companies. Call them the canary in the coal mine, but they knew catastrophic fires were coming and tried to get out. My wife and I left CA years ago due to costs and hazards. More will follow us now.
By the way Insurance companies use same research and data to decide increased risks (premiums) or remove covergae completely in certain geographical areas ...their risk analysis braintrust doesn't rely on pseudo facts or carriers of minsinformation.
Sure, she provided a detailed and rational explanation based on the complex interaction of agricultural history, suburban land development, building codes, and weather patterns, but what about vibes and DEI?
Kamala actually looked away from Trump at president Carter's capital rotunda funeral services when sitting down at the Capitol; Actually Trump was probably thinking this black woman still almost beat me in the election even after I rigged it.
Will LA city/county take any action to amend zoning laws for new construction to help prevent such destruction in the future?
They should, considering that the financial burden spreads across the country in increased insurance premiums.
(And before y'all drag me, the cheapest home in Malibu I was able to find on a quick Realtor search was for $680,000. And you got to own a whole 1/8th of the 2 bedroom home...)

Now it's panels. It's presenters moderating a bunch of pundits whose only purpose is to 'spin' the discussion to their own ends, facts-be-damned.
