I had to retire at 48 because I became disabled. I'm 70 now, so SSD and now SS has literally kept me alive. So far I haven't needed Medicaid, but if I live long enough to have to go into a nursing home, I will need it.

We know from personal experience that Social Security does not pay dead people. In fact, the bank account was frozen for 10 days while SS retrieved the deposit made the day after death of a family member. Medicare reported the death to SS since the person was on Hospice. The SS sytem works fine.

My wife & I applied for SSI in 2020, my wife for medicare,
she was diagnosed with cancer. we were denied till late 2021, November 18 2022 we received our first SSI check,
the same day my wife died. I notified the authorities, bank, SSI, They reclaimed her check the same day !
